Description:
The 351st Field Artillery, an African American unit during World War I, marching on Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh.

Notes:
Over 367,000 African American soldiers served in World War I, but only about 40,000 were permitted to join combat units in World War II. During that period over 2.5 million African Americans registered for service; however, only 1 million actually made it into the military. The segregation of troops ended in 1948.
