Charles Lindbergh's historic flight began in New York at 7:51a.m. on Friday, May 20, 1927 and ended at Le Bourget Field in Paris at 5:21a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 1927. Lindbergh's stop in Pittsburgh began when his plane landed at Bettis Field in West Mifflin, at 2:00p.m. on August 3, 1927. Before crowds estimated at 100,000, he was driven to Pitt Stadium for a public ceremony. In the evening he was treated to a private dinner at the William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.
