Duquesne Gardens on Craig Street opened to the public on January 23, 1899. It was then billed as the biggest skating rink in the world by the Pittsburgh Post. It had 26,000 feet of skating surface. Although hockey was the primary sport played in the Gardens, it was used for concerts and other lavish events and celebrations. Duquesne Gardens was torn down in 1956.
