Notes:
This Red Cross canteen was located in Foucaucourt, France. From the photo collection of William Thaw, the son of a wealthy Pittsburgh industrialist, this photograph is one of many that documents life during World War I. Thaw served as a pilot in the French Foreign Legion and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1918. He eventually reached the rank of colonel.
