Description:
The May Stern Furniture Store in the Penn Mall at 5947 Penn Avenue in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh.

Notes:
The May Stern Furniture Company was originally located in East Liberty. During the World War II period East Liberty was known as Pittsburgh’s second downtown region. It was an ideal area to own a business because of its proximity to downtown Pittsburgh. In fact East Liberty was one of the first Pittsburgh suburbs to have a trolley service. By the end of the 1950s East Liberty retail venues combined for total sales of $60 million dollars. However sales began to dwindled and East Liberty was redeveloped, roads were torn up, buildings were torn down and retailers either moved or were bought out. The May Stern Furniture Company became May Stern & Co. and relocated to 707 Grant Street.
