Sam Thompson was born in Brownsville, PA. In 1844, he began producing rye whiskey and continued production until prohibition forced him north into Canada. The large building to the right is Sam Thompson Distillery Bonded Warehouse No. 4. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lock No. 5 was constructed 1907-1910.
